This was the view from a window of my apartment in far East Portland this afternoon. A severe ice storm has come, and at least two homeless people have frozen to death in the last few days.
This is such a hard time in Portland, and the U.S., and it's only going to get worse. The housing crisis in Portland has made life here a struggle for survival for everyone who's not wealthy. I know I'm fortunate; I have food and shelter, and the view is beautiful from the warm, dry side of the window. I'm heading back to Scotland soon, and I think I'm feeling something akin to survivor's guilt.
